Etcelera unites the platform technologies of Cellarity, Etiome, and Empress Therapeutics with Flagship Pioneering’s proprietary AI capabilities to scale causal intelligence in human biology

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Oct. 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Flagship Pioneering, a scientific innovation engine for transformative platforms and products, today announced the formation of Etcelera, a company created by the merger of the platforms of Cellarity¹, Etiome, and Empress Therapeutics to pioneer causal intelligence in human biology: the ability to determine what truly drives disease and predict how a medicine will act in patients before it reaches the clinic. The company launches with continued support from Flagship Pioneering and others to scale the platform and advance drug discovery programs.

By combining high-resolution human transcriptomic data, advanced chemoproteomics, and state-of-the-art perturbation data generation, Etcelera’s unified platform can elucidate cause and effect in disease at the molecular level. This, combined with Flagship’s in-house AI capabilities, enables Etcelera to define novel targets and discover and develop small molecules against them with a greater probability of clinical success.

The company launches with platform-derived programs in hematology (including myelofibrosis and essential thrombocythemia), metabolism (including partnered programs in MASH), and immunology. Its foundation is built on years of innovation at Cellarity, Etiome, and Empress Therapeutics, whose platforms were each originated in Flagship Labs to solve intractable problems. Cellarity pioneered reading and correcting the state of the whole cell, an approach that uncovered a new target and mechanism to switch on fetal hemoglobin in sickle cell disease and produced CLY-124, a clinical-stage small molecule program being advanced by a dedicated asset company². Etiome’s platform is the first to deliver temporal disease-stage intelligence, revealing the right stage and the right patients for intervention. Empress’s industrialized multi-omics technology provides target or mechanism deconvolution and causal validation. Together, they form Etcelera’s integrated platform, which builds on more than 20 years of combined data, including the largest foundation model in the industry trained on data from 150 million cells, and more than 30 proprietary, AI-powered prediction models to form an integrated drug discovery and development engine.
